(Watch the RoomBot get developed in real-time on Collaborizm.)

Let me tell you a story about a brilliant, multi-skilled, 22-year old mechanical design engineer from Mangalore, India named John Rodrigues. John epitomizes what it means to be a “maker” — he loves to build stuff, using his knowledge of electronics and engineering talents- and he decided to put his skills to work addressing a very annoying chore that he is tired of having to do… vacuuming and cleaning his home!

John decided to build a superior autonomous home-cleaning robot. He believes he can build it better, and we do too, because when you leverage our community, you can crowdsource great ideas from a diverse group of highly skilled people, globally. That gives inventors like John a competitive edge.

How RoomBot is Shining on Collaborizm

  • Open source idea sharing helped evolve the capabilities of the bot, from a simple vacuum, to a multi-purpose house cleaning robot.
  • The community was able to amplify the potential of each task John has worked on…e.g., vacuum pump design, app design, and much more.
  • John has been able to meet 3 full-time teammates, and because they were able to get to know each other in the early stages of working together on John’s project, they quickly developed the essential ingredient to a successful team — mutual trust. How else could 3 engineers know how well they would work with each other before they formally teamed up?
  • Eliciting sponsorship: the project has only raised a modest amount of money so far, but it’s a start and when the India Times publishes its recent interview of John and his project, it should drive sponsorship of Roombot.
  • Find Mentorship: some American business owners who discovered John and Roombot on Collaborizm have helped him with his competitive analysis, positioning, and developing his UVP.
(John is a master CAD designer. But the community has complemented his skill set to make the RoomBot a viable product.)

Why Are People Helping John?

There are two primary ways to help and contribute on the platform. Join a project to learn and get access to the project’s private communication channels. These project teammates get involved specifically to:

  • Build their online credentials by displaying their skills.
  • Receive and provide Peer-to-Peer reviews that help build user resumes.
  • Qualify to perform paid freelance gigs on the platform.

RoomBot’s Business Plan (From John)

“While it is a fact that these bots already exist, our aim is to make RoomBOT smarter, more economical and more user-friendly which makes it one of a kind. Just to give an example, you can see what your partner is doing by using an app and also control it via phone. (Sounds more like a game, doesn’t it? :).

We plan to make this Bot popular through social media platforms, tech platforms and of course by reaching out to people who would be willing to be a part of affordable cleaning solution which we are going to provide in the form of RoomBOT.

In the future we plan to sell the product on Amazon Launchpad. It is a platform for startups which enables you to sell your product on the Amazon marketplace. Besides, they also provide support with the marketing and financial aspect. We also have the opportunity to scale up and eventually sell globally.”

Why Support the RoomBot as a Sponsor (From John)

Supporters to Date: 3 People

Cash Raised: $27

Your generous contribution would help us convert this prototype into an affordable product.

Any type of assistance from our sponsors would greatly help us invest into making this lovely piece of technology more affordable and user-friendly, making lives better and giving an opportunity for people to invest their time into more productive work, or rather just relax.

We need sponsorship in order to reduce the cost of the product by buying the components in bulk and to establish the tooling infrastructure. We have already reached out to the suppliers and have the necessary logistics in place.

You can contribute to the RoomBOT here.
