“Black Lives Matter,” the artwork in block letters

Painted with permanent street paint, the message is characterized by bold, yellow letters that stretch across 16th Street and marks a historic moment in the United States after weeks of protests.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser commissioned the “Black Lives Matter” artwork that city workers and volunteers began at 3 a.m. Friday morning before the weekend demonstrations. The new message is just two blocks north of Lafayette Square, where police loaded peaceful protesters and released tear gas in the last few days.

An important message, a demonstration of solidarity for George Floyd, which will now also remain on the streets of the American capital and which no one must ignore.
