The minimalist illustrations by Sacrée Frangine
Célia Amroune and Aline Kpade are two young French girls who met at school, both undertook a course of study in visual communication and both started working in Paris at two design companies. The time spent together and the common experiences led Alina and Célia to become much more than friends, almost sisters. From this special bond and the desire to create something personal, in 2016, Sacrée Frangine was born an artistic project that aims to tell the female world through colorful and minimal illustrations.
The name derives from the strong bond that unites the two artists and it is a French way of saying that can be translated into “sacred sister”.
Since they opened the Instagram profile until today, Sacrée Frangine has developed a style all its own and very recognizable: in the beginning the illustrations were essential, formed by a few lines on neutral backgrounds, today instead those lines have been transformed into colorful shapes that give life to female faces of every ethnic group. The interest in representing all women also through skin colour derives from the origins of the two artists, Célia was born to Algerian and Dutch parents, while Alina is half French and half Beninese.
Through the use of a wide palette of colors, few elements and a style that aims to remove more than add, the illustrations of Sacrée Frangine are able to be expressive in a new way.
