There’s something extraordinarily fascinating about Venice Beach that makes anyone who decides to spend even a single day on it stand out. It will be the colors of the villas that are reflected in the canals, the scent of the ocean carried by the wind and that air of freedom that you breathe and perfectly represented by the endless bike paths that run along the beach and a community that is divided between joggers, those who spend their days skating or those who have made the basketball court their kingdom. It is from the latter that German photographer Maximilian Baier was particularly impressed during one of his trips to Los Angeles.

Thus was born Veniceball, his photographic series that alternates between portraits of street players and match action, all exclusively in black and white. Veniceball is proof that something as simple as three-on-three can become a real spectacle, bringing passers-by and tourists to stop and admire the guys playing for the entire afternoons.
