What’s tUX?

tUX. (tailoredUX) was established to help startups bridge the investment gap in product design for the success of their businesses.

We started tUX. to think about client services differently— that it’s about people, relationships, & the strengths of partnerships in the context of client relationships that results in successful projects.

Startups came to us that needed help with UI updates, websites, or app redesigns; but what we mutually found is that they also really needed an evaluation of their businesses to uncover the core requirements we needed to make those designs successful.

They needed our help in learning about all the different ways design can help them, & we needed their help to learn about the business requirements behind the designs that will help them grow their startups.

We started running week long workshops with every single client that came to work with us. We learned as much as we could about their businesses, and aligned with their quarterly goals to help move them forward: from sales (consumer and enterprise customer acquisition), to investment, crowd funding, and incubation / accelerator acceptance.

We got ourselves into the business of helping founders succeed by reaching business goals through product strategy & design.

This alignment helped us build the right things for the startups that came to work with us. We didn’t get ourselves into the business of design, or UX, or services for product output. Again, we got ourselves into helping *people* succeed in life and work by focusing on doing everything we can to help them reach their business goals.

We got into the relationship business.

This necessitated a different model of working with ‘clients’. It forced us to invest time and effort in a different way by thinking of them as our partners. We positioned ourselves as their design cofounders, and established long term intentions and relationships to see through their business success by way of design.

We got into the business of being trusted partners with startups.

In January 2014 we solidified this model of working and started to grow our team, and by June 2014 we’ve worked with a dozen startups, 4 of those being key partners. We’ve officially created a program called Design Cofounders to represent these partnerships, and have grown an amazing team of individuals working to help us fulfil *our* business goals:

  • the business of helping individuals and businesses succeed through product strategy & design.
  • the relationship business.
  • the business of being trusted partners with startups.

We’ve been really busy over the past 6 months, & have a lot of stories to share about things we’ve learned: the successes, some failures, and a lot of growth. I’m looking forward to writing more.

If you have any questions about what we’re doing, reach out. We’re approachable and real people.

Edit: We’re hiring in Toronto.
