After tackling obstacle after obstacle, Roman Reigns finally won his first world championship as a WWE superstar, defeating long time friend and former Shield member Dean Ambrose via a vicious spear out of nowhere.

With tears glistening down his face and confetti gliding through the air and into the ring in Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, Reigns held his new championship close to his chest as he celebrated the victory with the WWE Universe.

The positive vibes did not last long.

Triple H’s theme music began to echo throughout the venue and the Game emerged from behind the curtain. WWE’s Chief Operating Officer and leader of the Authority walked down to the ring to congratulate the new champion.

The Game raised Reign’s right hand in the air and then preceded to shake Reign’s hand.

But, the champ new something was amok. Reigns speared Triple H into the mat, meanwhile Sheamus was lurking nearby. Mr. Money in the Bank brogue kicked Reigns and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract giving the Celtic Warrior an immediate shot to earn the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Sheamus attempted to pin Reigns but, he kicked out at two much to the Celtic Warrior’s dismay. Sheamus then used his finishing maneuver, the brogue kick again on Reigns and this time it was enough for the victory.

The Irishman won his fourth world championship in the WWE. Triple H shook the hand of his new champion and gave him a huge bear hug.

WWE commentator John Bradshaw Leyfield said, “What the hell have we just witnessed” soon after Sheamus captured the tittle.

WWE creative threw a major swerve at fans by putting the belt on Sheamus, most predicted Reigns would leave Atlanta as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The Celtic Warrior had little direction after winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in June and lost more matches than he’s won since that date.

He was defeated by Ryback earlier at Survivor Series in the traditional five on five Survivor Series Elimination Match.

The reason for making the Celtic Warrior the champion is most likely to sell Reigns as a babyface, something that WWE creative has tried and failed to do for sometime as Reigns continues to get booed by spectators.

The trend continued at Survivor Series, when Reigns beat Ambrose for the belt, he was booed.

Clearly, WWE wants to make Reigns the new face of the company which is actually why most fans don’t like him. WWE creative is doing everything in their power to make Reigns liked by the viewers.

Their method is to put him through the fire.

Seth Rollins cost Reigns the world title last year at WrestleMania 31. Then Brey Wyatt attacked Reigns at the Money in the Bank pay per view to prevent him from earning the Money in the Bank contract which ensures the holder a world championship match at the time of his choosing. Now, after climbing the mountain and winning the grand prize, it was stolen from him soon after by Sheamus.

Will this method work? Thus far it has to some degree as Reigns has had much more fan support recently than he’s had in the past. Many believe that the man he beat, Dean Ambrose should have been crowned champion as he arguably the most popular or “over” superstar with the company.

Only time will tell if Reigns will ever become completely over with the crowd but one thing is for sure, Reigns is up against his most difficult challenge yet as he will likely go against the Authority’s new man and WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Sheamus.
