Wire for iOS and Android now lets you record video clips inside the app and send these as messages into any 1:1 or group chat. People following the conversation on Wire for OS X, Windows or web can play the videos right inside the conversation. Like all content in Wire, video messages are end-to-end-encrypted and therefore fully secure and private — only the people you send them to are able to view them.

To shoot a video, simply tap the record icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the chat. Record the clip, preview it, trim it if necessary, and send it to the conversation. The clips can be up to 4 minutes in length.

Over the past few weeks we’ve had a lot of fun with videos in Wire company chats, especially in groups.

Permanent “toolbar”

Another significant change in the latest app version is that in any conversation — 1:1 or group — the tools to share pictures, sketches, files and to ping people are now permanently visible at the bottom of the screen. This makes them easier to access and straightforward to use.

Last but not least — a functionality that we’ve received a lot of requests for is deleting messages. It’s now possible in the latest Wire. Delete any message and it gets deleted from all of your devices — mobile, tablet or desktop.

We’re really excited to have you try all of this, so please get the latest version of Wire and give it a go. As always, if you have any comments, suggestions or if you spot a bug—we are @wire on Twitter, always listening.
