In the United States alone, there are nearly 100,000 people on the waiting list for a life-changing organ transplant, and every 10 minutes, a new patient: a family member, a friend, or a coworker, finds themselves on that list. The Health Resources and Services Administration demonstrates the staggering need for donor supply from the statistic that nearly 17 people die each day waiting for a chance at a new life. The crisis is well known, but what is the solution? Today, I sat down with Sagar Chhangawala, head of Computational Biology and the Heart Development Program, at eGenesis to further explore xenotransplantation and how this industry is uncovering hope for millions of people around the world.
