In a recent article from the international business times “Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton in Florida: Swing State Polls Show Cubans Matter” shows that the important swing state is in true contention this year after an old deal with Cuba puts Donald Trump in hot water. The story tells of how Donald Trump had allegedly spent around 68,000$ in Cuba back in the 1990’s before his first bid for president. During this first bid as a candidate for the reform party, he told Cuban Americans he would not spend any money in Cuba until Castro was not in power. With this spending in Cuba coming to light, Trump lost many Cuban American voters, even as he already had much trouble. With the Cuban-American population making up a projected 8% voting bloc, Trump could very possibly lose Florida which would be a major loss for the Republican candidate.

This article already meets the first principle of Journalism: the obligation to tell the truth. The article is fairly short but to the point and gets the truth across inasmuch fact as it could. It states the truth, Trump Hotels and Casinos, directly controlled by Trump, violated the U.S. embargo of Cuba by spending 68,000$. This allows for a lot of room for others to discuss the implications of these breaches. Along with this, the article makes sure that it represents the effect that it has on the Cuban american citizens and accurately showed their opinion. They demonstrated a professional detachment from the the story and presented accurate sources to back up the claims. As for whether it checks power, well the fact that the article is to delineate Trumps potential losses and inform voters of some of his shady dealings. By doing this it the article presents this in an interesting way that puts the future of the race in contention, which adds drama to the most dramatic race of the last 3 decades. The only problem that I can see with this article is that I fails to mention anything about Hillary despite her name mention in the title. This article gave a lot of quality information about a critical part of the race and for that It helps perpetuate democratic ideals.

The source of the article itself is a very clear and reliable source, International Business Times which focuses on fact and the business side of the news. The Times did a very good job of accurately representing all the ways that business affects politics, culture, and history itself, exemplified by this article. It even presents direct tweets and videos about the topics to back up their claims. Overall this article was very informative and gives Hillary supporters hope that Trump will be that much farther from the presidencey.
