My paternal grandfather, Papa, is very important to me. He was my best friend as a child, and when my family moved from North Carolina to Ohio, he made regular trips to see me. He still does, in fact — a few times a year, he shows up in Erie to feed me and chat. I have no one story to share about him, so this is a collection of anecdotes about Papa; his life, his personality, and our time together as chums. His mother, 99, recently passed and it is certainly a reminder that Papa will not live forever. I can only hope to preserve his memory so that it will give him a long-lasting legacy.
