Donald Trump Drops the Ball
Former United States Senator John McCain recently passed at the age of 81, on August 25th 2018. McCain died in his Arizona home suffering from a malignant brain tumor. Recent headlines have emerged highlighting the rocky relationship between McCain and current commander in chief, Donald Trump. Trump tweeted after McCain’s death.

This response by President Trump seems to have left Americans disappointed with the lack of praise of McCain’s service to our country. In an interview with Bloomberg, Trump defended his response to the death of McCain. Many major news sources have covered Trump’s controversial Bloomberg interview response. But today we’re here to compare and contrast two reports covering this interview by CNN and the HuffPost.
Both CNN and the HuffPost quoted Trump from the Bloomberg interview defending whether his response was unfitting saying.
No, I don’t think I did at all. I’ve done everything that they requested and no, I don’t think I have at all.
Both CNN and the HuffPost also reported Trump’s decision to return White House flags to full-staff a day after the death of McCain. These are the only two similarities shared by both news reports.
Now let’s take a look at where CNN and the HuffPost differed in their reporting of this mutual event. According to CNN, it wasn’t until the Monday after McCain’s death that Trump issued a longer statement claiming that he respected McCain’s service for our country. Also according to CNN, Trump claimed his respect for McCain’s service in the Bloomberg interview as well. The HuffPost didn’t speak at all of Trump later showing his respect for the former Senator. Rather the HuffPost turned their focus towards Trump refusing to answer Bloomberg’s question regarding whether McCain would’ve been a better president than Barack Obama.
