Defending Trump

Making a threat to the president to the president in this country is a big deal, but it’s something we have gotten really familiar with especially with Trump being the President, we almost expect it because he can be the cause of arguments that divide not only race, but families. Many people don’t agree with the things he says, but there are also many people who support every discussion he’s made, one of his supporters is the topic of the two articles I have found.

These articles are covering Robert Chain, a man from California who threatened not the President, but the Boston Globes for writing editorials that made Trump look bad, after he said that journalists are the enemies. These articles while reporting the same thing, have some differences.

In the first article on cbs news which is a news paper article that is distributed worldwide, they said “Man charged with making death threats to Boston Globe over Trump editorials” the choice of words is something that at first glance may seem the same as the Chicago Tribune but they are not. They are a little more PG-13 compared to the same title in the Chicago Tribune. In the Chicago Tribune, instead of using the words “death threats” they say “Kill” which seems more violent and more specific. This shows how based on where you read your articles, you will see different things. Since there are so many killings and deaths in Chicago, the Chicago Tribune instead of saying “Death Threat” they used the word “Kill” because that’s what the man wanted to do.

CBS news didn’t seem to be as specific with events like the Chicago Tribune. In the article by CBS it says that Chain, called the Globe’s newsroom, and threatened to shoot employees. Only when you read the Chicago Tribune article is when you find out he in facts, called and said he was going to shoot the building at 4 p.m. The Tribune also stated that according to records, Chain was in possession of a fire arm, therefore they called security to protect the building around that time. In the CBS article, you don’t get those details, only that he called and threatened the building. Again, just like in the article title, you know it is important but leaving out the details hides the seriousness of the event. While reading the article in the Tribune, this 68 year old man seems like more of a threat.

Although the article was about the man who threatened the Globe’s newsroom, CBS rarely mentioned the man himself. They only talked about the police, who were handling the situation, and how they handle situations like these with care and take them very seriously. The Tribune went into detail, about not only what Chain did, but him as a man. They interviewed people who knew him and even found out from one of his neighbors who called him Rob, details about his personality that could lead to him doing something like this.

These article may have been written about the same thing, and have very similar titles, but they tell the story two completely different ways.
