Crazy/Strange from start to finish, Atlanta proves that it was one of the most talked about shows in 2017. With season 2 right around the corner, we should be treated with another great story of Earnest “earn” Marks (Played by Donald Glover), His cousin Alfred aka “Paper Boi” (Played by Brian Tyree Henry), And Darius, the lovable but weird right hand man of Alfred(Played by Lakeith Stanfield). To recap season one, We have Earn trying to make a decent living to support his daughter but can’t seem to catch a break. From bouncing around from his parents house to living with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa (Played by Zazie Beetz), he realizes that he can’t keep on doing this. So when he finds out that his cousin Alfred is about to breakout in the rap scene, he seizes the chance to manage him. From there they find out what it really means to be in the music buisness and what Atlanta really holds for them. Personally this is one of my favorite shows and I’m excited for the upcoming season. Also it has something that you don’t see normally in shows.

So one of the things that I noticed about the show is that there is a narrative in where we see Vanessa not being the struggling mom/single mom (Her and Earn are co-parenting their daughter) that we usually get in most movies and tv shows. The script it flipped and we see Vanessa being able to provide to her daughter with a good life without that much help from Earn or anyone and also having a job that she is making a good amount of money at. While Earn himself struggles to have a single dollar on him. This leads me to look at vanessa as being a strong character in the series. From having her job as a teacher to bailing Earn out of jail, she shows that she has no problem being independent and can easily support herself and daughter. Later in the season she would lose her job because she tries to tamper with her drug test (when she really doesn’t have to because the principle tells her after the fact that the drug tests after the first one doesn’t get sent out to the district and is only to keep the staff on there toes) but when you look at her reaction after she doesn’t seemed to be fazed. It isnt until a couple of episodes later she is a at party where there are business opportunities all around her. So to say that she already knew that she was going to be able to find a good opportunity if she took it upon herself to make the opportuniy happen and use her friend and go to the party to help better herself shows that she can do it all and make things happen when she needs to. Few shows have a female character like Vanessa and that is why Atlanta distants itself from other shows.
