Tom vs Time is a Facebook series that just released its first episode today. The documentary of Tom Brady and his constant battle to combat his age, the media, and his own sport that has brought him so much fame invites us into the household and into the life of Tom Brady over the past year. This series currently only has one episode and is not clear when the next one will be released, but it is so much more than what I expected it to be when I clicked the play button.

The reason I watched this in the first place was because I’m a Patriots fan, and I imagine every other Patriots fan will watch this for the same reason, but the series turned out to be so much more. Tom vs Time begins on October 6, 2017 with Brady’s daughter shouting about how she has soccer practice and wants her dad to come watch her. Brady then tells us about the struggle of being the best. He says to be the best you you’ve got to be willing to give up a lot and for Tom the thing that he has had to give up is his life itself to be able to give 18 years to the NFL.

There are two things that stood out to me in this first episode. The first thing is how the series gives you insight about what every successful professional football player goes through. It provides a kind of sympathy for professional athletes across all sports. I feel that there is a general assumption about professional athletes and how they aren’t really people like you and me. They have everything. They never have to worry about anything. However, this series makes you realize that not just Tom Brady, but how every athlete is just as much of a mortal human being just like you and me. You see this through his every day struggle as the cameras follow him everywhere and you follow his journey of his refusal to fail even though the entire world and age itself is forcing him to fight an uphill battle on the field and off.

The other thing that stood out to me was the targeted audience for this series. This could have easily been meant for Patriots fan and football fans alone, although this documentary is actually beneficial for all athletes and anyone seeking motivation in any aspect of their life. This series is so relatable to athletes because of the blood sweat and tears we poor in to our game as Brady does in his. I fully believe that if Tom Brady wouldn’t have ended up being the greatest quarterback of all time, he most certainly would have been a fantastic motivational speaker. That is why I wouldn’t hesitate to label this series on Facebook as a must watch.
