Wearing a skirt for you

Over winter break I went to a little festival where Tyler, the creator was the headliner. Not really focusing on other acts except for Brockhampton, Steve Lacy, and Tyler, the creator, I was just wanting the people who I really didn’t care about to perform their set and get off the stage quickly. But then Some girl with white shades came on and had a very distinctive sound to her. Her name was Clairo. After her set I immediately went on my phone to download her music. One song that stood out to me was Pretty Girl.

The song starts out with her reminiscing of how she staring at a Polaroid picture of a past significant other and her remembering what it was like being in their arms. Then the hook goes into how she could be a pretty girl for him. What she means by saying that she could be a pretty girl for him was that she would dress the way he wanted her to, not talk to him when he tells her to, and wont ever make him feel certain ways like being sad etc. what she saying is that she has no control of her life and everything has to go by him in order for him to feel like he really owns someone. I feel like in some relatioships the guys will be very controlling and will let their girlfriends have an identity of their own. Its pretty evident seeing that I've seen a couple of relationships like this. She then goes on to say that she was a fool and alone. She is better now because she doesn't have the negativity in her life anymore. In the end she was trying to be someone she wasn’t. Relationships like this ruin lost of peoples lives and in turn are changed when entering new relationships.
