To start: waffles, French brie, parmesan, a tomato, green onions and some organic kale (I threw some greens in there because TJ was really into farming).

Next up: ideally, unlike me, you actually know how to make cheese sauce and so the cheese doesn’t congeal in a giant blob, but regardless, add cooked macaroni, along with green onions and tomatoes.

Finally, cook the frozen waffles and put the macaroni mixture in or on them. Cut the waffles in roughly the shape of a mastodon. (At this point, remember that you’ve forgotten to put the kale into the sandwiches and just eat it separately.)

Pair with some French wine

… in a cup that used to be a French yogurt container!

For a postprandial treat: ice cream! (In honor of a man who tried to experience the “best of both” French and US culture.) If you’d like to read a different metaphor into it, we will not stop you…

So, it turns out that ol’ TJ and his slave James Hemmings introduced a good number of foods to the US diet, especially from France. These include macaroni and cheese, tomatoes, ice cream, AND WAFFLES! So in gratitude to this legacy, we present to you, the Thomas Jefferson (not actually) grilled wafmacwich. Accompanied by French wine and US ice cream (which was pretty segregated in the carton… just gonna put that out there… and this)

Also, TJ was kinda really into mastodons.

Hail to the cheese!
