v 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. — John 3.19–21

As God is one, there is a single Word of God, and a single Testimony of God, and a singular purpose by which the Word is heard; that whoever has the Son has life. This life is one which can not be accepted without accepting judgement and condemnation by the same Authority under which one now finds life. The same truth of God’s Word of life (1.1) which unequivocally declares a righteousness of God such that if we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar (1.10), also declares with the full testimony of God that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1.9). The light which damns our sins in the darkness is also the light that will give each man a new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4.24). To stay in the darkness is to die apart from a life in the light, for whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. To stay in the darkness is to reject a life offered by the loving Grace of God, that man should have the freedom to obey God’s Authority and live by his true righteousness and holiness, even sharing in common the Glory of God who gave each man his being and has in this life delivered man’s purpose. When man is miraculously changed by God, believing in the testimony of God as to the Son coming in the flesh, his life is lived so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. It is not an effort to feign ignorance nor holiness apart from God, and there is a clear understanding that in this light of God, their deeds will be exposed. This is the Truth that god call us to by his Word of life, but what a Gracious will of God it is, that this Truth also comes by the act of love that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3.16). Death will come to the flesh. Judgement can not be avoided by a Holy and righteous God, a God who will not lessen himself by his very act of Creation nor his will for unity and relationship with his Creation. But because of death and judgement over all, whoever has the Son has life; because of the darkness, Light has come into the world that the now-believer may walk in the light, as he is in the light, and have fellowship with one another, as the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin (1.7). The Truth does not make the lies, but the lies makes the Truth singular and necessary; the light does not make the darkness, but the darkness makes the light into an approaching conqueror of that which was hidden in darkness, one who can bring condemnation or gifts of Grace.

Exhortations from 1 John

This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God
