Insurance producers can take licensing exams from home starting Oct. 1

Prospective and current insurance producers who need to take a licensing exam will soon be able to do so from the comfort of their own home.

PSI, the vendor we contract with for license exams, will release an online remote testing platform on Oct. 1. Remote testing means the candidate can use their own equipment and the exam will be proctored online using the computer’s camera.

This video from PSI shows how remote testing works.

To participate in remote testing, an exam candidate must have a desktop or laptop computer with specific requirements. When registering for an exam and selecting the remote testing option, the candidate’s computer will be tested for compatibility. Smartphones and tablets are not compatible.

If the device and internet connection do not meet the criteria, remote testing will not be available and the exam candidate will need to make an appointment at one of PSI’s 11 testing centers in Washington.

Initially, five single-line insurance exams will be available for remote testing: life, disability, property, casualty, and personal lines. The combined life/disability and property/casualty exams will not be available initially.

PSI testing centers will be closed Sept. 23 through Sept. 30 to launch remote testing and will not conduct insurance exams during the closure.

In 2018, nearly 10,000 producers were required to take a Washington state exam.
