Entrepreneurship is Not a Vehicle for Elevating Your Personal Brand
It’s been almost impossible to miss how much Kanye West has been in the news the past few months. The worst is, of course, is his recent antisemitism — which got him blocked from Instagram and Twitter and ended his deals with Adidas and talent agency CAA.
And rightly so. Antisemitism has no place in our society.
But we actually want to direct your attention back to an incident that occurred in August. Prior to losing his deal with Adidas and his talent agency, prior to encouraging a spate of antisemitic protests in LA, and prior to sporting a White Lives Matter shirt at Paris Fashion Week, his much-hyped Kanye-Gap collaboration went belly up.
We know, that feels like a million years ago. As a refresher, Ye accused the retailer of failing to fulfill its contractual obligations and planned to open his own retail stores instead. This comes after the pair went viral for all the wrong reasons earlier this summer (we promise this is related to social entrepreneurship — bear with us).
According to Twitter user @owen__lang, a Gap employee told him “Ye got mad” when he saw his new line neatly hung and folded in the store. He insisted employees return his merchandise to giant trash bag-like sacks. Employees were also instructed not to help customers find items in…
