If your commute to work is anything like mine, it’s long and redundant. It takes me about 40 minutes one way, and an hour the other—sometimes longer. Naturally, I’ve grown a little tired of listening to the same songs on the radio everyday, so I figured: Why not use that time for something more useful? That’s when I started listening to podcasts.

There are so many podcasts to choose from, picking one can be so overwhelming! I switch between about half a dozen playlists, and I just download them to my phone over Wi-Fi before I drive. To help get you started finding the perfect podcast, I’ve compiled some of my favorites—I’ll bet the creatives out there will enjoy them too!

Serial
“Serial unfolds one story — a true story — over the course of a whole season.”

Serial is an investigative reporting podcast — kind of like “Making A Murderer”. I love this podcast because of the storytelling. It sucks you in fast and makes you want to keep listening until the very end. And at the end, you still might not know what to believe. Listen to Serial.

Goal Digger
“Jenna Kutcher hosts the live-workshop style business podcast for creative girl bosses, so you can train from the experts how to dig in, do the work, and tackle your biggest goals along the way.”

This podcast is so educational for creatives and creative entrepreneurs. Jenna doesn’t keep secrets about anything in her business. She also has good shows about life in general. One of my favorite shows so far is episode 029: Following Your Intuition with Jess Lively. She talks about training your mind to listen to your intuition and ignore the negative rhetoric in your life. Listen to Goal Digger.

The Lively Show
“The Lively Show is a weekly podcast designed to uplift inspire and add a little extra intention to your everyday.”

After I heard Jenna’s interview with Jess Lively I bounced over to her own podcast. The ideology she’s been researching is a little heavy at times, but it’s so interesting! She talks about living from your intuition and leading a life of Values-based intentions.

One really interesting episode is TLS #208: What I Learned from a Google Workshop About Mindfulness + Neurology. She gives tips and ways to bring mindfulness into the corporate workplace. Listen to The Lively Show.

Under The Skin
“‘Under The Skin’ asks: what’s beneath the surface — of people we admire, of the ideas that define our time, of the history we are told.”

Russell Brand is getting a degree in Religion in Global Politics so he’s sharing what he’s been learning. This podcast can be pretty heavy sometimes too, but it really exercises your mind on current social issues. And some of his guests are so interesting to listen to. Listen to Under The Skin.

TED Radio Hour
“The TED Radio Hour is a journey through fascinating ideas: astonishing inventions, fresh approaches to old problems, new ways to think and create.”

A lot of us creatives have probably listened to a TED talk or two. Ted Radio Hour has some really fascinating episodes about common themes like the source of happiness, innovation, power shifts, and talks with inventors. Listen to TED Radio Hour.

Magic Lessons with Elizabeth Gilbert
“Elizabeth Gilbert helps aspiring artists overcome their fears and create more joyfully.”

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, has hundreds of episodes that help you unlock your creative potential. They focus on the question “What’s worth doing even if you fail? What do you love doing so much that the word failure doesn’t even have any meaning?”. Listen to Magic Lessons with Elizabeth Gilbert.
