Communication Design for Co-creation- 2024

In this year’s Co-Creation course, Brendon Clark spearheaded an initiative to propel IxD1 students into active service design engagement with real-world scenarios. The journey began with dynamic techniques like active interviewing and progressed into the organization of co-creation workshops, culminating in immersive improv theater sessions led by Rob Norman.

The service design methods we’ve been experimenting with are designed to vividly depict the world of potential users and stakeholders, facilitating collaborative design processes. Through these methods, we aim to co-create with users and stakeholders, ensuring that our designs are informed by their perspectives and needs.

A co-creation kit should help the participants immerse themselves into a world of what is today and allow them to explore what could be in the future. Many of the activities and materials of a kit first “teach” the participants what level of nuance they “should” focus on for designing valuable services. The materials and activities are crafted to intricately explore a specific topic, serving as a foundation for propelling current realities into future service concepts. They provide a nuanced perspective that acts as a springboard for innovation and forward-thinking in service design.

The project aimed to develop comprehensive, visually engaging toolkits to empower designers as proficient co-creation facilitators. Divided into four teams, we delved into diverse domains to examine how service design methods can enhance various contexts. The four teams worked in various domains to explore how service design methods can help for different contexts. This has resulted in four toolkits that might one day help colleague designers. Take a look at their projects and toolkits below.
