Part 1

I chose a series of plays written by a dramatist, John Godber. The book has a very simple design to it. On the front cover, the book has the title of the play with either some geometry or only the typography. Each book has a different typeface for the front cover. The spine also has the title of the play with a different typeface from the front cover. All three books differ in what typeface is used. On the back cover is a brief summary of the play. While the three books use different typefaces, they also use different colors for them.

All three books are the same dimensions: 8 7/8" x 51/2" x 5/16"

Book 1

Title: Departures

Front Cover: Title, Genre, Author, Publication Company, Two Arrows

Spine: Author’s Last Name, Title, Publication Company

Back Cover: Summary of the plot

Book 2

Title: Perfect Pitch

Front Cover: Title, Genre, Author, Publication Company

Spine: Author’s Last Name, Title, Publication Company

Back Cover: Summary of the plot, Three quotes from Articles

Book 3

Title: Unleashed

Front Cover: Title, Genre, Author, Publication Company, dots

Spine: Author’s Last Name, Title, Publication Company

Back Cover: Summary of the plot

Reading the brief summary on the back face of the original book cover, the three books did not share similar plots while they are from the same author. So I focused on creating illustrations that give a sense that they are books written from the same person with different plots. I did not focus too much of what the title of the books are because the original design of the book covers do not have much design other than the titles written in different typefaces.
