Ineffective vs. effective Designs

Ineffective Design: TaB soft drink

This TaB soft drink has too much text on the front of the can and feels chaotic. The TaB logo typefont and the typefont of “diabetic soft drink” makes it feel tight and congested. The outlined text in yellow is not very aesthetic. I think the use of the yellow could be used more effectively. Additionally, there is not a lot of negative space. The hierarchy of information is strange. The text in white at the bottom is normally much smaller in size and also not on the front of the can. The scale of the three different text elements are not working well.

Effective Design: Golden State Cider

This Golden State Cider used contrasting and compliment colors to create this simple yet effective design. There is a clear sense of hierarchy where your eyes look to the logo first on the front side of the can and then downward. The same top-to-bottom hierarchy is used on the back of the can, which gives you a little more information about the drink. The use of negative space helps keep the design clean and simple. The typefaces chosen work well together and give a more clean and playful vibe.
