Effective Design

This is a Chobani strawberry yogurt cup. It is usually found in the dairy aisle or a supermarket. The goal of the design is to allow the consumer to quickly distinguish this product both from the brand’s competitors as well as from the brand’s other flavors. In order to distinguish itself from the competitors, the yogurt cup has large text in all capital letters that read Chobani. To distinguish the flavor from others, Chobani has put a large graphic of a strawberry on the cup, a red highlight around the cup that read the flavor, as well as other red graphics and texts. Lastly, there is a lot of white space on the cup to make the strawberry, red highlight, and Chobani name stand out in the dairy aisle.

Ineffective Design

This is the cart that the Apex buggy team in CMU currently uses to transport equipment. The purpose of the design of the cart is to distinguish the cart as a cart that belongs to the Apex organization. While the cart does have the Apex colors, which are yellow and red, the Apex name is not written on a flat surface of the cart and is repeated around the cart without any spaces. The name is written at the corner which means that looking directly at the front of the cart one would see “AP” and at the side one would see “EXA”. If one were not familiar with the buggy teams on campus, one would have a rather difficult time figuring out the organization that this cart belongs to.
