Ineffective Design Book Cover

Ineffective Design

I consider this book cover as an ineffective design most importantly because the title is very hard to read. There are eight different font colors and four different type sizings in the title alone which makes it all the harder to register, the rainbow puzzle pattern in the lower half of the cover adds even more color to the design which results in another element of distraction. I think “A Time Saving Guide” is the most eye-catching part of the cover, and the linear gradient adds to the appeal of it’s efficiency.

Effective Design Book Cover

Effective Design

This book cover features a title quite similar in design to the previous image, however “Clean Slate” is a lot more easier to read as it is comprised of a single color and font size. The title is boxed and has a clear separation to the background image, allowing the title to be more easily read. The overall design indicates that this is a cookbook geared towards healthy living and the background image also adds to the appeal of clean eating. There is also a universal color palette within the different foods presented resulting in an overall more coherent cover.
