Helme Tragen

Designed in 1977, this poster says “Helme tragen,” which translates to “Wear helmet.” I think this poster effectively uses the composition of both the text and the image. By dropping the “a” on the helmet, which is the only object with the spot color, it graphically communicates its message, so that even if you did not know the language, you would be able to understand. The large scale text on the very top that fills up the whole width definitely catches the eye first, creating an obvious hierarchy of important information. The decision to make opacity changes on the “a” intensifies the sense of movement of it on top of the placement of “a” closer to the helmet than the rest of the text. Overall, I think this poster catches your attention to both the top and the bottom with different graphic elements, also making it interesting and to the point.
