Exercise One: Typeface Tracing

Tracing of different typefaces

Exercise Two: Typographic Voice

Typefaces for the word Melancholy

I chose the word Melancholy, and used fonts from different classes. I think the Helvetica font best represents melancholy because of its simplicity and spacing between the letters, which gives off a glum mood. The Arial Rounded MT Bold font doesn’t represent the word well because the font’s curved edges gives it a happier setting- contrary to the meaning itself. The fonts that have more spacing between the letters are better fitted for it the word.

Exercise Three: Typographic Hierarchy

This was done to experiment with different linespacing, typographic weights, horizontal shifts & indentations, and size changes.
