Theme: Japanese traditional Arts Festival

An arts festival that aims to showcase the beauty of Japanese culture.

Sub-themes(event themes):

  1. Kimono(traditional clothing): Kimono is a Japanese traditional garment. In Japanese, kimono denote these full-length robes. The kimono is always used in important festival or formal moments, it is the representative of polite and a very formal clothing. Kimono are T-shaped, straight-lined robes worn so that the hem falls to the ankle, with attached collars and long, wide sleeves. Kimono are wrapped around the body, always with the left side over the right .
  2. Origami/Japanese traditional art crafts: Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. The best-known origami model is the Japanese paper crane. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be of different colors, prints, or patterns.
  3. Japanese masks: Japanese masks are used traditionally in theater, festivals or rituals. They are connected to folk myths and tails. Masks represent people, creatures, devil, ghosts, and animals.
  4. Sushi/Japanese Food: Sushi (すし, 寿司, 鮨?) is a type of food preparation originating in Japan, consisting of cooked vinegared rice (鮨飯 sushi-meshi) combined with other ingredients (ネタ neta) such as seafood, meat, vegetables and sometimes tropical fruits.
  5. Sakura/Fuji Mountain:Mount Fuji is one of Japan’s “Three Holy Mountains” (三霊山 Sanreizan) along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku . It is also a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and one of Japan’s Historic Sites.It was added to the World Heritage List as a Culture Site.

All of the above can be regarded as symbols of traditional Japanese culture. Therefore, I plan to choose 3 from the above to be the theme for each poster. They will altogether highlight Japanese traditions. I want to use simple graphic shapes to communicate those symbols. The third poster on the first row is a great example/inspiration of using shapes/color to simplify yet strongly represent one of the theme — kimono.
