What Do YOU Need to Improve On?

According to Kit Pang (2017), communication is on the back burner as we progress further into the technology age, and unfortunately for my generation, it’s people like me who are supporting such an accusation. “Communication is both an art and a science,” he quickly states after bluntly advising us to become a “people whisperer,” as if the initial talking isn’t the problem to begin with for some of us. In other words, communication is a more in depth field than most come to think of it as. It encapsulates a large realm of our everyday life, ranging from our casual relationships to the bonds we form in our business adventures. Language can be beautiful, but it can also be constructive.

Where we can agree that being able to fluently speak with other individuals is necessary and beneficial for all involved, Pang continues on to share tips on how to communicate effortlessly, rather than necessarily how to promote communication in the workplace and in the developing world. Nonetheless, the tips are most certainly noteworthy, and deserve some recognition. In short terms, he states that we should take the precautions of using pronouns to invite engagement, using open body language to promote interest, recognizing and responding to the audience’s style, and furthermore simply being an open listener. How does that make YOU feel? Do YOU feel like a better communicator now?

Either way, the benefits that can amount from the proper skillset are seemingly endless. If you are able to talk to anyone about anything without hesitation and with ease; paired with a strong worth ethic and general skills, you have the potential to be a strong and successful worker. You’ll possess the requirements to build and maintain adequate relationships, and construct efficient working teams. In addition, being able to delegate and communicate with transparency with your coworkers is a strong indicator of management potential and can therefore result in workplace progression.

Although for many people, in-person communication is what causes a majority of issues, proper communication via technology in the workplace, such as e-mails, is extremely relevant as well. Knowing how to project your message and desires without having the aid of tone of voice and body language can pose as a dilemma for some, and can even result in misunderstanding or tension. Therefore, having the knowledge on how to compose these messages competently and professionally, while still maintaining your original point is crucial for such an environment.

Now does this mean these talents will translate into your social life? I mean… probably. How would I know?
