The New HoloTalk!

Mom,

The holographic phone is finally here! This phone allows users to use the HoloTalk feature where it projects a holograph of the person you are talking to so that it feels like they are in the room. This holographic phone is going to revolutionize communication devices yet again, because it will allow the users to feel they are in room with one another and change the meaning of talking on the phone.

One issue that we have always been struggling with is that nothing feels exactly face-to-face communication. FaceTime is an amazing tool, but it is still two-dimensional. It is still a great communication tool, but will not feel like the realistic interactions of holographic communication. A holograph of the person you are talking to will be projected in real time from their chest up. Through HoloTalk, you can see the other person’s hand gestures (to a certain degree) and facial expressions. The other person can see you from the chest up as well. If both of you set down your phones on your laps, you can see the holograph projection of one another. I have tried it and I feel like the person I am talking to is right in front of me. I know you would enjoy this great invention, because you can see your grandkids even if you cannot travel all the way to our house.

HoloTalk is really easy to use. Just remember to click HoloTalk instead of call, and to set the phone down so that the other use just doesn’t see your ear. I understand that you are still used to making phone calls that only include voice-to-voice communication, but I think with a little practice, you will really like seeing the people you are talking to in almost an interactive way.

HoloTalk will change how people talk on the phone. You remember a time when the only way to call someone was on a landline with a phone connected by a wire to the keypad. You have seen so many changes to phone communication, and here is yet another one with a holographic phone. Your grandchildren will not feel the limitations of speaking on the face voice-to-voice, because they will know FaceTime and HoloTalk. Talking on the phone has become more and more visual, because it connects a face to the voice. By the next generation, I think voice-to-voice phone communication will be completely outdated because of the option to speak like it is face-to-face. When I consider those who have trouble keeping in touch with family that lives far away because speaking on the phone is not the same, I know that now it will be easier if they can “see” one another as they speak to one another.

There are limitations to consider. Since this is a brand new form of communication on cell phones, it is still a little buggy. There is sometimes a lag on the holograph versus the audio or a holograph freeze, but these were the same problems we faced in the early stages of video communication software like FaceTime and Skype. It can be hard to understand how the phone picks up a live video of your body from chest up and project it onto the other phone instantaneously, and I am still confused how this technology operates. It requires some experimentation and patience to understand how it operates, but please try to figure out.

I am really excited to use HoloTalk with you and show you how it works. I know it is going to change phone communication forever, and I look forward to a world that widely uses HoloTalk. Enjoy this new phone!

I’ll “see” you soon!

Love,

Patrice
