When yahoo was assembled in 1994, the internet was still what I’d like to think new to the scene. People during this time were new to the internet’s wide range of sources and capabilities. Web design was probably the farthest thing from everyone’s mind yet companies were discovering marketing concepts to attract more people and ways to keep them interested in their brand. The overall look of what we are attracted to today wasn’t trending but was on a slow rise. When they first appear on the scene their web page would have appeared today as what we call a pop-up page because it lacked the marketing concepts to draw in consumers. They also were still trying to pull those lagers aboard to what news which was the internet.

In 1996 yahoo webpage was half a page with nothing but list of hyperlinks and a search bar. They lacked creativity, graphics, images and a wide category that they would later offer todays users. The page was just a basic white page with nothing but words and advertising appearing around content. The logo was a basic type font written in red at the top of the page. Then by 1998 Yahoo added a feature that would be a total game changer which was the free yahoo email. When yahoo launched that they were offering this feature for free they enter competition with AOL, MSN which all had to be paid for and consisted of contracts. Now Yahoo webpage still lacked graphics, images, and the proper logo but you could tell they had something up their sleeves as time progressed.

By the year 2000 yahoo was catching on to what caught their user’s eye and how to keep them coming back but they were still lacking the brand image on their website. As the internet grow yahoo adapted with the times and began to make changes to their page. Yahoo began to utilize their columns by adding story boards to the right and center columns. In 2006 Yahoo appear more like a webpage rather than a reason for us to so happily use pop-up block today. It’s as if the designer became more confident in his/her work and gain the skill set to help them stand out. They were still only using the center and right column therefore leaving a blank space in the left column but it was progress. As the internet matured yahoo found its niche and became what we call the Facebook today. They were finally using their whole webpage to display images, graphics, slideshows, and my all-time favorite a trending box.

As of year 2015 Yahoo webpage is more organized in order of importance, more of a pleasure to look at, and user friendly. Although in the 2015 it is no longer the top dog for instant messages but is still used for other features offered such as quick news and latest trending gossip. I for one use it for junk mail and coupons from varies online shopping.
