Nafuna Leah Anthia is a 22 year old student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication in her final year. Leah is being raised by her father Mr. Watasa Samuel, a Business man and East African Community (EAC) Commissioner for Trade and Competition and her mother Ms. Clare Namadigini, an administrator at The Aids Support Organization (TASO) Uganda. Leah started her education from Kampala Nursery School in Wandegeya then moved to Buganda Road Primary School where she studied her primary one to primary five and then finally moved to St. Anthony Nursery and Primary School where she completed her Primary. With a brilliant score of a first Grade, she then moved to Seeta High School main campus where she completed her O level and after moved to another campus of Seeta High School with another record breaking first grade of 10 in 8. With such splendid scores, Leah was able to earn herself a spot at Makerere University to pursue the Journalism and Communication Degree. Leah is passionate about marketing and advertising, a field that has fairly been ignored by most graduates from her course.

Leah has however had to carry out so many try outs as far as finding her niche that is to say she did her first internship in her second year with Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) where she worked with the Public Affairs Office and she obtained and strengthened her communication and writing skills and later in her third year, she interned with Nation Media Group particularly NTV Uganda Business news desk where she was able to acquire video editing and camera skills, writing skills and more so photography skills. Leah has also interned with Capital One Marketing Group, a company that has given her the at most skills that have helped her secure a job opportunity with them as a communication executive.

This work-school life started in August 2019 and she says that so far it is burdensome and tiring but she says she needs to get used now because it is the new normal as most people pursue Masters Degrees while working. However she adds that while others complain about having four year course she has never regretted this as it has helped her to be strategic and more organized as far as planning for her future. Much as the work-school life has most times leaves her out like the light, she gets time to search about new and interesting things on her Instagram and Twitter have a good time and let off steam.

“Work without play makes Leah a dull girl” she cheerfully says.

She concluded this chat with remarks that university students should always fight hard to make sure they leave the university with a feasible plan such that they are not automatically left idle after they have graduated.
