Meet Mandela Samuel, a fourth year journalism student at Makerere university. Mandela was born in 1997 and attended Kampala Parents Primary School from pre-school before joining Atlas Senior Secondary School in Gayaza where he attained the Uganda Certificate of education and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education over the course of six years. Mandela then joined Makerere University in 2016 and is set to complete his course in mid-May this year.

Outside of academics, Mandela is active person. He’s been known to involve himself actively in university activities like guild campaigns, conferences and inter-hall sporting activities. His contribution towards the 2019 guild president campaigns is one that cannot go unnoticed. Mandela served as a chief strategist on the campaign team of Katerega John, the current guild president. Mandela has made himself a noteworthy contributor towards conferences on the University. He religiously attends the Kampala Geopolitics Conferences held annually at the main building and once got the opportunity to represent Makerere in France. Mandela is also a popular face at the porridge nights at Makerere Guest House every Thursday wherein he communes with equally passionate poetry lovers. Mandela’s inclination to poetry was discovered during his high school having been a literature major at all stages. He particularly loves modern poetry and his favorite poet is Beau Taplin. During the inter-hall sporting competitions, Mandela’s main contribution to his hall, Lumumba, is table tennis and swimming. Both of these are sports he has competed in since he was as young as six years and continues to put Lumumba on the map through his swift sportsmanship.

Mandela is kind and lovable among his colleagues. He has a diverse network of friends, from fellow Christians to classmates and even lecturers. He is a reserved young man but holds very well rounded and informed opinions on issues of social justice, law and religious beliefs. You can check out the links to his social media
