PHIONA RISES ABOVE LIMITATIONS

Phiona is quite an interesting character though you might not notice it at first glance of her. This is due to her peculiar, calm and introverted nature. She was born, raised and baptized as Phiona Bero Patricia in Mulago, a small town in the outskirts of Kampala city in 1997. Seemore She attended quite a number of schools in her earlier life which include; Old Kampala primary school, Seeta boarding primary school, Our lady of good counsel, Mugwanya summit college where she completed her o-level from. She then attended Seeta high school -green campus which marked the closure of her high school education. Despite facing a lot of obstacles like financial constraints, Phiona has managed to thrive through it all as she is a finalist of bachelors degree in journalism & communication at Makerere university. I have personally been very fortunate to know Phiona since 2016 when we reported to campus in Makerere as fresh men. Surprisingly, we did not become friends instantly but were later on connected through a mutual friend in the course as the old saying goes “all good things take time”. Phiona just like any girl her age has big dreams but regrets mostly of being deprived of her paternal love. This is the most hurtful experience that she has had to live with, that has left immense emotional and psychological damage even in her adulthood .Phiona being the last born in a family of four girls received the least attention, warmth and embrace from her absent father who occasionally came in and out of their lives and later left for the UK in 2009 to a no return till date. Trying to put into perspective the engraved torture, insecurity and haunt this incident caused to Phiona’s life is an understatement. Phiona had to grow up watching her mother single handedly fend for the family, no communication at all form her father since it was the new reality that had befell their family.

Phiona is terrified that this incident has affected her relationships with most male counterparts because she carries bias from her childhood and life onto them. She is slowly learning and teaching herself to come out of herself and past knowing that not all men are like her father. At the brighter side of life, Phiona has managed to overcome all her distress through dancing, singing, watching movies not to exaggerate but she even won an award in high school as best dancer which has motivated her to keep pushing through life. Having concurred through every step of her life, Phiona is unstoppable as she intends to even set up an academy for deaf and dam people in the nearby future since she has had this a passion for quite a long time now. She also refuses to be defined by family background and change the narrative for her future children.
