Resilience and managing change effectively can really be the deal breaker whether you are searching for a new job and making a career change or whether as an entrepreneur you are managing complex internal organizational restructuring. Forging ahead with belief requires a trip out of our comfort zone so it can be quite uncomfortable.

Other people may not want to come along for the ride or can’t match your pace, one thing is for sure and that is you will definitely encounter some resistance along the way. There will always be naysayers who cling to the comfort of the known even if it is not healthy or productive.

To help you manage these choppy waters of change we at HR Innovate have our top three tried and tested tips that have not only worked for our own internal structures but our clients have used and tell us work a treat:

Buy-In

Those around you, especially those closest or most key in the execution of things need to be invested too. As with most things, change cannot be successfully embedded without the buy in and support of your team. Your transparency and communication with them is a game changer. Your enthusiasm and drive will be the guiding force. Anyone not up for the ride must sit this one out, do not be dragging the unnecessary weight of negativity.

Commitment

Once the buy-in is secure, everyone must commit. There’s no half-assing things, no lukewarm gestures. You have your tasks, you have your end goal, time to commit and see it through. That means sticking to the plan, everyone doing their part. Everyone acknowledging it will not always be easy but knowing that to ride it out is to come through the other end.

MRE — Monitoring, Reporting & Evaluation

This may seem particularly clinical when applied to change within our lives such as a career change etc but sometimes a data driven approach even in our private lives can mean a more objective, impartial view of things so try this. For the changes to be sustainable and most felt, having a process to guide you is always helpful and monitoring and evaluating steps along the way and then finally at the end is key. The reporting function also acts as testimony to how the changes were implemented and what facts and figures these were based on and therefore backed up by.

The MRE Method also acts as a great tool for accountability. Recording things and evaluating and reporting the steps and details mean those that put in their best effort will shine, things that did not work so well will become learning opportunities and it will also help engage people and make them accountable for their role and input.

Think of this as a cheat sheet. If you google Change Management you may find yourself overwhelmed as entire degrees and courses are done around this topic, so pertinent to our business and private lives is it. This is our cheat sheet for you, this is the top 3 indicator guide on the essential ingredients.
