The most important question to ask yourself this New Year

Out with 2019, in with 2020. Surely, no more cheesy new years resolutions? No more unfulfilled gym memberships, 2 week failed attempts to quit smoking, we are all bored of that I am sure.

There’s absolutely no reason why your resolve will be any stronger just because another year dawns. Sad, bitter truth.

Instead of questions around the extra kilo gained or the 20 extra ciggies you smoked last week, there’s another question that we should be asking as we try to use this year to inform our next.

Quite simply, What have we created?

All current, hot trends aim to propel you in that direction whether its mindfulness, Gratitude, conscious leadership or parenting, a million and one fashionable labels etc, it’s all aimed at getting people to consider their contribution, their creations in life.

An almost darwinian impulse drives us to create, in our personal and work lives. We leave dead end jobs much the same way we leave dead end relationships or marriages, because they are not evolving or growing. We are built as a species for movement and growth. Our mental and physical health declines when we stagnate and have not worked at growing anything all year.

So here’s how to make sure 2020 doesn’t see you stuck

Don’t say Noto anything. Go to that event, take that date, book that ticket, be open and simply don’t reject anything untested.

Patience — a virtue apparently but an absolute ****ard to master. The rewards are high though, patient reactions born of listening and timing are far more profitable in the long run than knee jerk fast responses. I have learned the hard way that really smart people take their time, think carefully before they speak and appreciate the magic of timing.

Discriminatebe choosy, pick carefully who you surround yourself with in life and business, energy suckers are everywhere.

Use resources carefully — much as life can imitate art, it can also imitate politics and this year sees most major countries being governed by sociopaths and who knows quite how the globe will be next new years. So tread carefully, subscribe to nothing zealously and whether its your hard earned cash or your psychological energy choose who gets it and waste nothing. Choose when to use it. Be sure to reboot and refuel every chance you get.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Happy New Years peeps, let’s go get it
