About the Community Solutions Cooperative
United by our desire to develop public service solutions of, by and for our communities the Co-op (community outcomes and opportunity in public service) brings together academic and engagement activities college-wide. Membership in the Co-op exemplifies a shared commitment among faculty, staff, students and community partners to find collaborative solutions to challenges in our community.
Beginning in fall 2016, all new undergraduate students will have a solutions-based learning class requirement that immerses them in the community and challenges them to think critically about public service within the context of their chosen field.
Students create a community impact statement identifying a social issue that serves as a focus for future coursework. Through a variety of experiences — coursework, internships, service learning, undergraduate research, study abroad, community impact labs — students are not only workforce-ready when they graduate, they are affecting change in our community from day one of their college experience.
