Working at Home setup is becoming a norm in the business world these days. People have adapted to this new working arrangement while maintaining their quality of work.

Finding the right printer is an integral tool for a business even when at home. Here are 6 things you must consider before purchasing a new printer for your home office setup:

1. Volume of Printing

Evaluate how much printing you will need. Usually in a home office setting, desktop Inkjet printers will do the job for low volume printing. However, if the job demands a higher volume then, laser printers are best for robust printing.

2. Need for color printing

Mono laser printers are more economical if you only need to print black text documents. Though there are quality laser printers in the market for colored printing, the best option is still Inkjets for your professional color documents.

3. Print speed

When it comes to the print speed, Inkjet printers are quite competitive, however when you’re printing in large volumes, the speed is crucial and laser printers are the way to go. Find a printer with at least 20 pages per minute to meet your printing demands even when you’re at home.

4. Multi-function Printer

You have to assess whether you also need other functionality in a printer such as scan, copy and fax. Multi-function printer will save you money and space at home. Getting a multi-function printer gives you convenience in accomplishing tasks at home, if you need more than just printing. Moreover, consider also a printer that can perform duplexing because this will definitely save you time from manually feeding the paper.

5. Printer Versatility

Another factor you have to consider is the materials you will use for printing. LaserJet printers are usually for ordinary paper printing only. But, if you will need to print on labels, photo papers and DVDs then you have to go for an Inkjet. Be sure to check the size of your materials since printers come in different document sizes. Is A4 enough or perhaps you needed to use an A3 wide-format? In addition, if the job requires photo printing make sure to purchase excellent photo papers as well as getting a quality Inkjet printer.

6. Your connectivity

When at home, you will want to have the flexibility in printing from any part of the house. You may want to print using different devices. Generally, printers are connected to your computer via USB which is totally fine when you are using a desktop computer. But when you’re at the comfort of your home, you may want to opt for network computers or Wi-Fi connectivity. There are several apps already such as Google Cloud Print and Apple Air Print that let you print straight from your tablet and mobile phones, just make sure your printer model is compatible with the app you will use.

Once you have assessed your printer needs based on these items, you can narrow down your options of which printer to purchase for your home office.
