Printing With AirPrint

You can print high quality without downloading or installing drivers with Apple’s AirPrint technology. Nowadays, this technology is built into the most popular printer models, as well as the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Note: The steps that will be discussed are also applicable to the iPad and iPod touch.

  1. To start, check to see if your printer is compatible with AirPrint. Check out Apple’s list of AirPrint-compatible printers to verify. You can proceed with the instructions for printing without AirPrint if your printer is not included in the list.
  2. Ensure that your iPhone and printer are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network and are within range of each other.
  3. Open the file, picture, or webpage you want to print (or the application you wish to print from).
  4. Look for and click the “Share” button, which is a square with an upward-pointing arrow in the center, a three dot icon, or a left-pointing arrow icon.
  5. Find a printer icon next to “Print” in the pop-up. Check the app’s help if you can’t print.
  6. Tap “Print,” then “Select Printer” at the top of the next screen.
  7. Click on your printer.
  8. Next, choose the pages that you want to print and the number of copies that you want printed of each page.
  9. Finally, click the blue “Print” button in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Printing Without AirPrint

Some older printers don’t have AirPrint. If they’re wireless, you can still print wirelessly by downloading the printer’s app from the App Store or with a USB cable. First, let us discuss how to print via the printer app.

• Printing via printer App

  1. Download the app for your printer from the App Store.
  2. Turn on the Wi-Fi on your printer.
  3. Run the printer app on your iPhone.
  4. Go to “Settings”, and then click on “Wi-Fi” on your iPhone.
  5. Find your printer in the “OTHER NETWORKS” section and click on it.
  6. Lastly, open the document, picture, or web page you wish to print, and then click the “Share” icon to print.

• Printing via USB cable

Note: To connect your iPhone to the USB cable, you will need a USB OTG (on-the-go) adapter.

  1. Switch on your printer and attach the USB cord to it at one end and the USB OTG cord at the other. Connect the USB OTG cable’s other end to your iPhone.
  2. 2. Your iPhone should display a pop-up; select “OK.”
  3. 3. Open the document you want to print and click on the Share button.
  4. 4. Click the “Print” option.
  5. 5. On the Printer Options page, the printer should be visible next to “Printer.”
  6. 6. Click “Print” in the top-right section.
