How to replace HP 206A, 206X, or HP 215A toner chip from compandsave.com

You might have come across ‘No chip’ toner cartridges from eCommerce stores when shopping for a new cartridge. This is commonly seen in online stores selling off-brand HP toner cartridges. This ‘No chip’ label actually means that the toner being sold does not have a chip on it so you will need to insert the chip from your empty original HP toner cartridge for it to work.

How to remove and insert the chip into the new toner? Read on as we will discuss the two different ways how to do it depending on the position of the toner chip on your empty HP cartridge. But before anything else, please note that this guide will work only on the following HP toner cartridges:

HP 206A Toner Cartridges

HP 206X Toner Cartridges

HP 215A Toner Cartridges

  • HP 215A black toner cartridge (W2310A)
  • HP 215A cyan toner cartridge (W2311A)
  • HP 215A magenta toner cartridge (W2313A)
  • HP 215A yellow toner cartridge (W2312A)

Tips on HP 215A, HP 206X, and HP 206A Chip Replacement

The toner chip replacement process depends on the position of the chip on your empty original HP toner cartridge. With this being said, let us check the position of the chip on your empty toner first.

Now that you know where the chip is situated, please check which position is the same as the one you have based on the photos below, and then follow the HP toner replacement instruction for it.

I — Chip Replacement Guide for Structure A

Tools needed: Tweezer and diagonal-shaped cutting plier.

  1. Using the plier, cut the cartridge rib beside the chip to disassemble the chip from your empty original HP toner cartridge.

2. Cut the plastic twice to create a V-shaped gap, as shown in the photos.

3. By placing the top of the chip on the top edge of the chip slot, you can put the chip on your new toner cartridge together.

4. Using tweezers, press the chip in the direction of the red arrow; press until you hear the chip click into place.

5. Ensure that the chip is correctly placed as shown in the illustrations. If the chip is not inserted in the correct location or is installed in the wrong direction, the printer will not detect the toner cartridge.

II — Chip Replacement Guide for Structure B

Tools needed: Tweezer and diagonal-shaped cutting plier.

  1. Disassemble the chip from the original HP toner cartridge by cutting the cartridge rib.

2. Cut twice on the plastic to make a V-shaped gap, as shown in the pictures.

3. Remove the plastic covering the chip by using the pliers, as shown in the pictures.

4. Use pliers to cut into the glued layer under the chip, and then gently lift the pliers up to remove the chip.

5. Clean the black glue on the chip by using pliers.

3. To assemble the chip on a new cartridge, press the tip edge of the chip against the top edge of the chip slot.

7. Use tweezers to press the chip in the direction of the red arrow, the chip is installed into the slot after hearing the click.

8. As illustrated in the image below, make sure the chip is inserted in the correct position. The printer will not recognize the new toner cartridge if the chip is put incorrectly.

NOTE: When printing, the computer may prompt “Cartridge Low” after inserting the chip from your empty original HP toner cartridge into your new HP toner cartridge. If this happens, close the popup by selecting “2 months” from the “Snooze” menu. This will allow you to use the new toner until the image density is low.

I hope this helps. Happy printing and enjoy saving!
