Company Ventures
Company Ventures is an early-stage venture firm that invests in top New York technology teams

Women’s History Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate the phenomenal achievements and leadership of women entrepreneurs in our Company Ventures community. The obstacles women face in the tech sector frustratingly remain consistent year over year. Even with increased attention in VC circles, in 2019 female founded companies received only 3% of all venture capital investment and teams with a female founder received only 20% of capital allocated.

Since the program’s launch in 2014, 42% of the startups that have participated in Grand Central Tech have had a female founder and collectively they have raised a total of $500M. …

The official launch of Company Ventures is a very exciting moment long in the making. As my first post on our new site, I thought it would be appropriate to lay out how we got here.

When we established our flagship program, Grand Central Tech (GCT), seven years ago, our goal was to craft the ideal environment for extraordinarily capable founders to thrive in — notably removing any equity obligation or rent burden — by framing the experience largely on the value of immediately proximate intelligence and aptitude. We believed then, as we do now, that a community of founders…

Company Ventures is a sector-agnostic firm investing in the most compelling new businesses at the earliest stages. Thanks to our Grand Central Tech program and to the 250+ founder community we’ve amassed over 7 years, we’ve been fortunate enough to see a good number of such businesses. We’ve made 53 investments to date in the full range of sectors, and a concentration of excellence has emerged within our healthcare portfolio. …

The following appeared in Crain’s New York on 9/9/2020.

By Matt Harrigan

There has been much debate lately about whether New York City is “dead,” and of course it isn’t.

But it is true that, even before Covid-19, we were long overdue for looking at the city with fresh eyes and developing new mechanisms for improving the day-to-day experience of living and working here. Now, with the meteoric and here-to-stay rise of remote work, wariness toward urban density and the loss of so many traditional drivers of New York’s appeal, the city unquestionably needs to evolve to tip the cost-benefit analysis of city vs. …

How remote internships are providing new opportunities, and why we didn’t cancel ours.

By Lindsay Siegel

As our city and country grapple with the layers of complexity that we face in 2020, a well-designed internship program takes on added importance. Students will likely face a new set of challenges as they graduate into a weakened economy, and internships and apprenticeships provide a necessary access point to help them land on their feet. Startups, too, are caught in a moment of extreme stress as they fight for their own survival, and more hands on deck can help alleviate the burden.

Since 2017, we’ve partnered with CUNY (The City University of New York), the largest…

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) in collaboration with us, The Urban Tech Hub @ Company (UTH), and CIV:LAB, announced the relaunch of the Neighborhood Challenge: Tech Forward, an open innovation platform designed to crowdsource solutions to support the city’s commercial districts and small storefront businesses that are facing severe impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are seeking proposals to pilot innovative, tech-enabled solutions from startups, technologists, and innovators from across the globe. The solutions will help small businesses recover as they seek to reopen safely and responsibly.

The neighborhood…

We are thrilled to announce the sixth class of companies and first class of founders in this year’s Grand Central Tech (GCT) Residency Program!

Since our inception six years ago, GCT’s goal has always been to thoughtfully construct a community of premier early-stage companies in New York City. The basic insight powering how we execute our residency program is to provide great early-stage companies with the ideal combination of time, environment, and resources with which to thrive. It has been our experience that being surrounded by other great people on a day-in and day-out basis can have a dramatically positive…

How impact-minded leadership can change the world for good

By Lindsay Siegel

When it comes to the questions of how to build a business that is maximally inclusive, sustainable, responsible, valuable, and profitable, there is so much for a founder to consider that it can be hard to know where to start.

At Company Ventures, we have responded with our North Star Initiative: a program that helps early stage founders codify their vision, mission, and values from the beginning. …
