Our mission at Compass News has always been to make quality information accessible and affordable to all.

Compass News was born out of frustration. We believe that — despite the internet’s endless deluge of information, it has never been harder to be well-informed. Compass News is our solution: a journalism platform which allows everyone to enjoy great journalism from high-quality publications without spending too much time or money on it.

We launched just a few months ago, and were overwhelmed by the support we received. We’ve built a community of tens of thousands of you. Based on your feedback, we are continuing to build a product that helps you make sense of the world in a way that is easier and quicker than ever before.

Today, Compass News is leaving beta and becoming a subscription service.

We’re committed to keeping the price as low as possible, while still being able to offer you a high quality experience that is not driven by clickbait or advertising.

For just £0.99 a month, or £9.99 for a whole year, you can become a Founding Member of Compass News.

The first 50,000 people to sign up (that’s YOU, hopefully!) will become Founding Members. You’ll have the price guaranteed at £0.99 per month, forever. No price changes. We promise.

Imagine if you’d had the chance to get Netflix for £1 per month, for life, back in 2005?!

Modern journalism is broken.

The problems:

1 Quality. With social media feeds favouring clickbait over quality content, it has become almost impossible to discover the pieces which really matter.

2 Money. Journalism needs money to survive, but subscriptions are ludicrously expensive. Paying for one is hard — paying for more than one is never going to happen. The result? Seeing more than one high-quality perspective has become financially impossible.

3 Time. Fitting in time to read 20 articles each day just isn’t practical for most people — and yet there’s more journalism being produced than at any other time in history. This means that loads of great journalism goes unread every day.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Plenty of other industries have evolved with the 21st Century — it’s time for journalism to have its moment.

How we fix it

Compass News is designed to be the world’s fastest way to keep up to date — and make sure you’re always the smartest person in the room.

A journalism platform where what you see is determined by quality as defined by professional editors, not how many times it has been liked or shared.

Click here to see how our news curators pick the news.

We give you:

  • Today’s headlines, explained in 30 seconds. Our headline briefings tell you what happened, what it means and why it matters — in under 100 words.
  • The Compass News edition: the world’s best articles, hand-picked by our team of expert curators, only from the most trustworthy publications on earth.
  • Summaries for everything: don’t have time to read an article? We’ve got a 30-second summary so you can get straight to the interesting stuff. Don’t know the backstory to an article? Read our 100-word “Story So Far” to get up-to-date.
  • The world’s cleanest reading experience: no clickbait, no adverts, no terrible listicles and no time-wasting.

We’re immensely proud of what we’ve created — but there’s still loads to do. As we come out of beta and launch our subscription service, we’re super excited about the future: we have huge plans for new designs, features, different ways to read and experience journalism and much, much more.

We are a team of journalists, developers and media experts who all truly believe in making important information accessible to everyone. If you want to be part of this mission, become a founding member today:
