COMPFEST 14, Depok — Capture The Flag (CTF) has entered the final stage. This round was held offline on October 30, 2022 at the new building of Fakultas Ilmu Komputer Universitas Indonesia. There were 15 teams that qualified for the CTF final stage. The winners will be announced at the Awarding Night held at the Ministry of Industry Building. Come follow the excitement of this CTF final!

The Last Flag

The final round began with re-registration for the contestants. The committee explained the technicalities of the event, venue, and time. After the explanation is complete, participants are directed to enter the designated room. After the participants reach the room and sit in the allocated place, the committee conducts a briefing, which explains what the participants will do during the event such as checkpoints, deadlines, etc. of the event. Checkpoint in this event means a period of time where the committee checks the progress of each contestant. After the briefing, participants did the contest from 09.00 to 14.30. The contest involved working on problems related to hacking a code to find a string with the name “Flag”.

After three hours of doing the tasks, the participants were given a break by the committee, but seeing that the target in this contest was quite complicated, the majority of participants did not eat but continued working on the contest. After the time was over, the committee conducted a photo session with the committee followed by mobilization to the Ministry of Industry Building.

THE WINNERS — BOYS WHO CRY

We also had the opportunity to interview the Boys Who Cry team, Linuz from IPB, Zaen from ITS, and Dimas from ITN Malang. Their interest in cybersecurity started at the end of high school and began to deepen it during college. Last year, at COMPFEST 13 they also participated in CTF, but they only won 5th place. Therefore, they participated again this year.

According to them, COMPFEST was very exciting because it was the first time this event was held offline. Their impression of CTF was that the questions were very challenging in terms of complexity and also because this year’s COMPFEST was their first offline coding competition in Indonesia. They participated in this competition with the expectation of getting free accommodation space, free food, and without winning any championship. According to them, the questions continue to evolve and are getting more complicated now.

The series of COMPFEST events is not over yet. COMPFEST Main Event will be held on November 12th, 2022 at Balairung University of Indonesia. Make time to attend because there will be COMPFEST Talks presenting inspiring speakers and many other exciting events.
