Final Project Showcase: Hard Work and Creativity at Camp 3 of COMPFEST
COMPFEST 16, Depok — August 18, 2024, marked the second day of the third and final camp at the Software Engineering Academy (SEA) COMPFEST 16! Participants, who had been working diligently for two weeks, finally had the chance to showcase their final projects in front of experienced judges. The judges for this event were Pak Ichlasul Affan, Pak Dimas Prasetyo, and Bu Helena Natanael, ready to provide valuable feedback and assessments. Our MC, Kak Kenya, opened the event with excitement and invited the participants to demonstrate their team efforts. Each group was given one hour to present their project, followed by a Q&A session and feedback from the judges.
Team ‘Sigma’ Captivates with a Pitch-Style Presentation
The first group to take the stage was Team ‘Sigma’, consisting of Wisnu Putra, Aulia Aziz, Steven Tjhia, and Atqiya Haydar. They began by explaining the problem presented in the assignment and then proposed the solution. With a presentation style reminiscent of a startup pitch, they detailed the technical aspects of their project, from entity relationship programs to use case diagrams, clean code implementation, and more. Team Sigma’s presentation concluded with a demo of their program. The judges provided constructive feedback, suggesting improvements to the UI design and data security.
Team ‘Nama Kelompoknya Apa Ya?’ Impresses with Near-Complete Implementation
The second team, aptly named Team ‘Nama Kelompoknya Apa Ya?’, included Febrian Daffa Eka Putra, Filbert, Kenneth Sunjaya, and William Theodorus. They explained the technologies and tools they chose, such as email service providers, cloud services, and testing methods. The team also discussed their collaboration process, offering the audience insight into how they worked together. During the Q&A session, the judges appreciated their work and showed curiosity about the specifics of their testing process and push notification implementation, providing constructive feedback and suggestions.
Team ‘A1’ Impresses with Polished Micro Interactions and Layout
Team ‘A1’, featuring Made Narayan Dananjaya, Rayhan Fadhlan, Abraham Gregorius, and Izzan Abdul, began by discussing the problem they aimed to solve and their developed solution. Bu Helena praised their micro-interactions and thoughtfully considered layout. Pak Affan provided feedback on the importance of comprehensive error handling. Pak Dimas highlighted the main challenge of time management, especially since some team members were still involved in university activities like final exams and freshman orientation.
Team ‘DevGo’ Stands Out with Mobile App Development
Next up was Team DevGo, composed of Dewa Tri Wijaya, Ibra, Dimas Andrian, and Albert, who took a different approach by opting to develop a mobile app. They presented the flow of their development process from backend to frontend in detail. Pak Dimas initiated the Q&A session by asking why they chose a mobile platform over a website. Both Bu Helena and Pak Affan offered feedback and suggestions for further improving their mobile application.
Team ‘High Five’ Delivers a Stunning Presentation with Well-Done Results
The final team, Team High Five, was made up of Elgin Brian Wahyu, Dindin Imanudin, Benardo, and I Putu Natha Kusuma. They utilized the Waterfall method and meticulously explained each phase, from requirements analysis to maintenance. Team High Five had a well-planned development timeline, enabling them to implement all the expected features. The judges praised their design and repository structure, with Bu Helena noting that their quality was close to production-level standards. Pak Dimas acknowledged that his expectations were fully met in terms of website quality, front-end development, and the team’s presentation skills.
Review Session and Closing
The judges highly appreciated all the participants. Bu Helena expressed admiration for what was accomplished in such a short time, while Pak Dimas praised the participants’ enthusiasm and dedication. Pak Affan encouraged the participants to continue exploring technologies like CI/CD to enhance development efficiency.
The event was concluded by Kak Sachi, the second MC of the day, after the lunch break. Kak Sachi extended gratitude to everyone who contributed to the camp’s success, including participants, mentors, judges, and more. We hope that this camp will serve as a valuable asset for their future careers in software engineering.
Interview Session
After the closing session, we, the Editorial Marketing of COMPFEST 16, had the opportunity to chat with some participants about their experiences during the camp. Natha from Team High Five expressed pride in his team’s quick work and the tremendous learning over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, Elgin, also from High Five, found the new knowledge he gained invaluable, especially since he had no prior background in web development. Wisnu from Team Sigma was proud of his team’s commitment, which enabled them to overcome the challenge of tight deadlines, and Aulia appreciated the chance to broaden his knowledge and build team bonds.
The experience of planning and presenting their final project was both exciting and challenging, particularly due to the tight deadline, which they acknowledged as the main hurdle. The support from mentors and the committee was instrumental in helping them complete their projects. After the presentations, participants took to heart the judges’ feedback, such as the importance of clean code, good repository structure, and enhancing design, security, and user experience in their websites and applications.
After completing the Software Engineering Academy, many participants realized that the field of software engineering is broader than they initially thought and felt more confident about pursuing it. Natha grew more enthusiastic after discovering new aspects of the field, while Wisnu emphasized the importance of continuous learning and exploration. Aulia and Elgin feel more prepared to enter the IT industry with the knowledge they’ve gained.
For software engineering enthusiasts, the SEA participants encourage you to jump in without hesitation. They highlighted that this experience is incredibly valuable and offers significant personal development benefits, even more so than some paid programs. Their advice: start early, don’t be afraid to try, and take full advantage of every learning opportunity.
