COMPFEST Talks 1

As the very first seminar of the day, COMPFEST Talks 1 was moderated by Tara Mecca Luna as a Product Manager at Pluang with Syafri Bahar as Vice President Data Science at GOJEK and Dwi Wicaksono as Co-Founder and Commercial of Balesin.id as the speakers. The seminar brings the topic of “The Significance of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Marketing”.

The seminar started with a presentation from Syafri on the role of artificial intelligence in GOJEK. Helping customers find nearby drivers, knowing which foods customers bought together, and finding similarities in order patterns are some of the implementations of artificial intelligence in the app. The data was processed into a vector space and the AI will automate everything. Syafri stated that without us even knowing there is up to 20 artificial intelligence running in 1 screen of an application.

Next, Dwi presented a glimpse about Balesin.id and artificial intelligence in the company. Balesin.id is a Business to Business or B2B company which helps other businesses implement artificial intelligence in a company. Balesin.id’s newest product is a chatbot for multiple messaging platforms to increase efficiency in a company’s customer service. Other than a chatbot, Balesin.id also offers an automated distribution system. Sari Roti is one of the many companies that use and implements Balesin.id’s automation system.

We had the opportunity to interview Dwi and Syafri after the seminar session was over. Dwi shared the things that need to be prepared before a company implements AI for its digital marketing strategy, which is the company’s problems to solve. Starting from the problem, the company must prepare what technology they want to apply, the data, the marketing strategies, the marketing targets, and others. Regarding this matter, Syafri believes that a workforce that understands the ecosystem in general is an important thing that companies must prepare before implementing AI for their digital marketing strategy.

Dwi hopes that through the presentation of material at this seminar, the participants will have a better understanding of what use cases are like in their industry, not just theoretical matters. Syafri hopes that the participants can get the takeaway. He hoped that after attending this seminar, the participants could realize the urgency to enrich themselves with knowledge and skills in the midst of an era of ever-evolving technology.

Responding to the ongoing COMPFEST 14 event, Dwi hopes that the COMPFEST event can continue and be enlarged in the future so that people can always be updated with technology that continues to develop. On the other hand, Syafri is pleased and proud of COMPFEST’s goal of building awareness on technology-related topics for students. Thanks to Dwi and Syafri for taking the time to share very interesting insights for COMPFEST 14. Best of luck.

COMPFEST Talks 2

After a quick afternoon break, the second COMPFEST Talks begins, this session is presented by the duo Danang Suryonegoro and Sheryl Sheinafia, an actor, presenter, and also an artist while the latter an actor, singer, songwriter and also a producer. The topic presented is mostly different from the other sessions presented, on this one they mainly talk about self improvement, mental health and personal experiences.

This whole session is a back and forth Q&A session between the hosts, they were previously given several topics to talk about by the committee like hustle culture, financial management, finding the perfect life balance, the inevitability of the future, and time management. They each give their own perspectives on these topics, most of them were answered by Sheryl.

Both hosts also play along with the participants, starting from asking the participants what their take are on the current topic, to pranking and having fun with the participants. At the end of the session, the participants were given time to ask the hosts questions related to all the previously discussed topics. Most of them were centered around life advice, like how to face the hardships of life, how to deal with quarter-life crisis, how to deal with over-expectation from other people and most asked, how to make a cohesive and easy to follow daily schedule. All these discussions led to a conclusion that the hosts made, that is to start simple and never let things go out of control.

COMPFEST Talks 3

After an exciting performance from the Asciipela band, the event continued with the third COMPFEST Talks session. This session presented Gabrielle Christie, who currently works in the field of Product Marketing Bibit, as moderator, and Alamanda Shantika, CEO & Founder of Binar Academy, and Bianca Widjaja, Investments BRI Ventures, as speakers. The topic presented was no less interesting than the previous topic, which was “The Rise and Fall of Digital Startup in Indonesia”.

This seminar begins with an explanation of the differences between startup companies and conventional companies. Alamanda said that in startup companies, many things are not known so many new innovations are produced. She also said that there is a lot of uncertainty in startup companies. Even though many have implemented digital transformation, corporate companies are in place and stable. Meanwhile, startup companies are like making something from a blank canvas and experimenting with various things. Bianca added a statement that was in line with Alamanda, that conventional companies have more stable finances while startup companies are more focused on pursuing growth.

During the question and answer session, Alamanda shared her tips on how to become a wise leader in building a startup company that can build a team that can work well together. She said that working for and learning from other people is a priceless thing which theory cannot be found on campus. We can also ask for feedback so we know what things to improve. Alamanda then continued that leadership does not have a dictionary. As a leader, we must embrace the strengths and accept the shortcomings that exist. What is no less important is how we can work with other people and understand that other people are different from us and how we can complement one another.

After the show ended, we got the opportunity to interview Alamanda and Bianca. Alamanda talked about her aspirations on founding her startup, Binar Academy, which is to further develop Indonesian people’s competency in technology in order to compete worldwide. Regarding the huge number of Indonesians founding startups, Alamanda said that it is a good sign for the future of Indonesian startups. She claims that just the fact that there’s a huge willingness to found a startup means that Indonesians have been positively influenced into being interested in the right path. Bianca also added that by having a lot of startup founders in Indonesia, it means that there’s a certainty that the market is there. Bianca and Alamanda shared about what the biggest turnoff is when a founder is pitching their idea. Bianca claims that someone who doesn’t even understand their own product should not be someone to look out for. In her words, “If you’re going to be the captain, you better know how to sail the ship.”

Alamanda and Bianca then shared their impressions of COMPFEST 14. Bianca was very surprised and delighted with how enthusiastic the participants were. She claims she didn’t expect the participants who were mostly college students to ask such interesting questions about startups. Alamanda was also impressed by the participants. She stated that she was already familiar with COMPFEST and she is glad that COMPFEST has provided an environment for the people of this nation to grow and develop their knowledge in technology.

COMPFEST Talks 4

Not long after the previous talkshow, COMPFEST Talks 4 started, marking the last talkshow of the main event. The speakers this time are both content creators or internet personalities who are well known for their content on social media. The first speaker was Leonardo Edwin, known for his traveling content on YouTube and TikTok. The second speaker was Bayu Eko Moektito, also famously known as Bayu Skak, who started by making comedy videos on YouTube but lately has risen to higher standards in the film industry. The topic of this session was “The Art of Entertaining: Maintaining Ideas of Content Creating through Technology Adaptations”.

Leo and Bayu begin the talk show by discussing that to make good content you not only need to be creative, you also need to be innovative, but most importantly you need to be disruptive. Leo and Bayu also talked about how IP or intellectual property is actually more than just entertainment and people will adopt the concept of “Know it, Love it, Consume it”. Bayu also said that creative contents are very good assets that can be exploited without ever worrying about resource limitations. In the words of Bayu, “Humans will never run out of ideas, because what fuels ideas are humans themselves”.

Next, Leo thought it was kind of sad how people of this nation are more interested in what’s out there rather than what’s already here. According to Bayu, Indonesia needs to up their game in regards to our creative industry. Bayu claims that the government has not put any effort in making Indonesian culture be known and acclaimed by the world. After Bayu finished his presentation about being proud of our own culture, a Q&A session was held which was followed by a photo session.
