We are excited to announce the name of our DAG-based ledger and queue technology — Computes Lattice!

When we set out to build our decentralized mesh computing platform, we obviously looked into blockchain technologies but decided against this architectural approach due to several major reasons including: slow transaction speeds, wasted computes on proof-of-work (PoW), and ledger storage overhead (more details).

We ultimately decided to build a DAG-based ledger for computes transactions on top of IPFS! The benefits of this approach include: incredibly fast transaction speeds with no wasted computes on PoW due to mining and no ledger storage overhead (which is perfect for IoT devices). In fact, transaction throughput improves as more nodes join the mesh computer.

All Computes transactions are linked via an IPFS Merkle DAG connecting all parent and child transactions in the appropriate order to create a ledger that manages tasks, input/output files, and logs.

In addition to our decentralized ledger technology, Lattice also includes our decentralized queuing and messaging system. Computations can be sent into the mesh computer from any node in the private/public mesh network. Likewise, any node on the mesh network can assist with computations.

Tasks are decomposed and orchestrated to support both serial (frequently used in machine learning) and parallel computations. In fact, tasks can create new tasks and feed the output of one task into the next task. The split/map/reduce steps are being driven by the conditions of the previous task. Everything is linked together using IPFS’ DAG and IPLD.

More news on Lattice coming soon! Since Computes is decentralized, there is no additional infrastructure required to run our mesh computer. Essentially everything computes, everywhere. You simply need to “activate” computes on your machines. Interested in learning more about our evolutionary mesh computing technology, simply contact us (info@computes.com) for more details.

Stay tuned to this blog for more exciting information about our new technology stack and development progress! You can also reach us on Twitter, Facebook, and GitHub.
