Karaoke Night

Last week, The Concave community had its first community event, Karaoke night! Talented singers from all over the caves joined in for this night of celebration and good vibes. A panel of judges consisting of the mods and operators sat in the call, eager to see what kind of singers the Concave could attract. The result was extraordinary. Miners sang their hearts out, expressing their love and passion through their fiery voices. The Karaoke night truly encapsulated the message of WAGMI that Concave is all about. Although every singer that night was a star, only one miner could be chosen as the winner of the Karaoke night. The winner would even receive a special role called Karaoke King. The singer who rose up against all the rest that night was Ξndeavor#9146, who gave a legendary performance about Concave that put everyone to tears at the end. It was a beautiful sight. Sadly, we were not able to get the video recording for this karaoke night, but we will look to have recordings in the future. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the night special.

Reverse AMA

On December 10th, the team decided to host an AMA session with the community. However, there was a twist. Instead of the community asking the team questions, it was the team that would ask the community questions about Concave. The event started with core member Epiktetus asking the community members with the Philosopher roles various questions through the text channel. The philosophers gave insightful responses to each of them. You can read through the questions and responses here.

As the AMA went on, we opened up the voice channel for questions from Jman and other miners as well. The philosophers who joined offered their intellect and wisdom to the community. Their voices reverberated through the caves, inspiring all the miners who joined the space. It was a special moment where every miner was in sync, listening to the philosophers pour their heart and soul out to the community. In case you missed the event, you can listen to the recording right here.

Team Interview with Typhoeus

A strong community needs a strong core, and the mining core has been busy at work getting Concave Finance to be a powerhouse in the DeFi space. We wanted to drop by and have a short interview with Typhoeus, one of the core miners for Concave.

What is your background?

My background is that I have been an Ohmie since mid August. I couldn’t believe the APY was ~18k%. I watched the rebases every 8 hours for like 2 weeks. Eventually found my way into the community discord for FOHMO3. Jman was the MC for that event. So much cool stuff. I got a POAP, and they had lots of great interviews and fun things to engage the community with. I can’t imagine what Jman has planned for Concave. If you thought this was a wild ride so far, just YOU wait.

After that, I found my way into the OlympusDAO work server and worked part time moonlighting on a few projects. I earned 4 ohms for my work in September! I worked mostly on the main landing page chatbot project, but also hung around the different areas to try and get a feel for the DAO. Everybody in the DAO is awesome to work with. It’s amazing the difference there is working with people who actually WANT to be a part of the project. You obviously indicate that by voluntarily signing up for a project in need. The DAO is still working on what fair compensation is for contributors. Us agilists like to promote a sustainable pace and that includes how much you work. The thing is if you get paid enough for something you love to do, is it really even work anymore? That’s the culture I want to embrace. Let’s just do the things we love to do. I love to get people to collaborate together. To coach a team to embrace a set of values and demonstrate it through my actions.

This past month I was working on the wallet management feature and the bond limit feature. There are some top notch designers, UI/UX devs, backend and contract devs working on these projects. I’m excited to be able to utilize that functionality on my own personal wallet, but those features deliver value to the ENTIRE OlympusDAO ecosystem: anybody that owns ohms or derivatives of ohms.

How did you learn about Concave?

I learned about Concave when Jman hit me up looking for a PM for a new project. I had no idea what I was signing up to help for! Haha.

What are your personal hobbies?

My personal hobbies include church, family and jiu jitsu! I’m also a member of a local community non-profit. I have been blessed so much in my life so I try to give back. This past weekend we were ringing the bell for the Salvation Army (big non-profit in the US) to fill up the Red Kettle.

How do you envision Concave Finance in the future?

I envision Concave as a place that enables and supports THE community to continually build and deliver capabilities FOR the community. My goal is to do as much as I can to enable and empower individuals in the community to successfully build greatness TOGETHER. WAGMI is not just a slogan. It’s real. We can all make it, but we need each other to do it. Outcomes and outputs matter. Individuals and Teams matter. Individual empowerment and good leadership matter! Concave is the place that will set the standard and the foundation for true agility.

Concave Echo International

You might not know this, but the name of this newsletter actually came from the hardworking German community. The German community saw that there were many miners from different parts of the world who wanted to organize in the language channels to help Concave where they could. However, many of these channels needed guidance and structure, and that became one of the core tenets of Concave Echo. Concave Echo international is a community initiative led by Bike4peace, DogeX, and 4valanche that offers structure to international communities and gives guidance to these communities to help Concave. The Echo group has done amazing work so far, such as setting up a Notion workflow that international communities can use and recruiting Echo representatives that can help their own community organize. With the great talent at Echo, we are excited to see where Echo international goes from here.

Concave NFTs of the week

The Concave community has created some sweet NFTs for miners this week. It was quite a sight to see community members join together to create some sick NFT projects for the community. We have had three projects three projects release this week. The NFT collections are created by community members who joined together to make these projects possible. Once the collection is made, the community lets the Concave team handle the release in exchange for a portion of the funds that are sent to the Concave treasury. This collaboration signifies the core tenet of Concave, Coopetition. Here is a graphic showcase of each of these amazing projects. You can find more information on these projects here.

This is just the start! We have more exciting NFT projects coming up next week. Be there or be square!

Miner of the Week

This week’s miner of the week is Tervon#6129! Tervon has been doing some amazing work as a miner with the Policy and Philosopher role. We wanted to learn more about Tervon and talk to him about what he is working on with the Concave community.

Tervon’s background is in Law. He is an attorney in South America and first learned about crypto while researching smart contracts for his MBA thesis back in 2019. At the time, he was not involved in the community, but he knew it was the future. Tervon was hacked and rugged in September and lost almost everything. Once it happened, he took action and rediscovered crypto, especially CT. He saw OlympusDAO’s model as raw genius and followed the OHMies. If they were able to create such a thing, surely they would be able to unleash many more good projects.

When asked what he spends his time doing in Concave. Tervon says that he mostly thinks. This is almost all he does even before Concave. Day in, day out.

“I can’t stop thinking and planning. It’s sometimes quite crippling. As for concrete actions, I try to concentrate on “what needs to be done”. I check the announcements for tasks I can complete and get to work on these tasks. Since Concave is such an amazing community, often the most important action is to simply point our companions towards the right direction. Aside from that, reading theses/books, searching for Alpha, and syncing with my fellow miners.” -Tervon

Other Community Contributions

The Community Contribution section is a place where we celebrate some of the amazing work of our mining community. Here are some of the brilliant projects that our community has created this past week.

The Phi Club

Over at the Phi Club, our philosophers have been hard at work with research and theory crafting to figure out what Concave is. Here are some examples of their findings.

What is Proof of Stake?

“Proof of Stake is a consensus mechanism which selects validators based on the quantity of holdings, but requires much less effort and power consumption as compared to Proof of Work. Proof of stake is more capitalistic — selective — the more you have, the more you’re worth, the bigger your role in the system is.”-Dani#4308

On a long enough timeline does Proof of Stake become communism? Does Proof of Work?

“No proof of stake doesn’t become communism over a long timeline. It is typically early investors and whales that have the largest stakes and therefore they hold the capital and power. As a cryptocurrency grows and increases in price the gap becomes greater, the barriers to entry higher and there is less ability for mass amounts of small participants to truly gain the capital and power in this dynamic. Proof of Work is the same as Proof of Stake, those with more resources are more able to purchase and run hardware assets and run them economically. The only systems that would approach communism are Proof of Participation/Activity where individuals could be rewarded for their contribution into and participation in a network or protocol regardless of their capital.”-artuc#5364

In the Gymnasium

Early on at the start of Concave, there were many community members giving fitness and health tips to each other to help each other succeed in their body goals and health. This small movement would eventually become a channel known as the Gymnasium, a place where miners would support each other and grow together as a community. Here is an excerpt from one miner, who writes about effective ways to heal up knee injuries.

“The strength of the core is a very important factor in most multi-joint lower-body training, especially in the problem of excessive knee stress due to excessive forward leaning. Often, leaning back during free weight declines is rare, because the resulting weight instability and slippage will cause us to stop training, but excessive leaning forward is very easy to occur, and this has a lot to do with the core’s inability to support the weight well, and the practice of moving the knee too far forward and putting a lot of load on the front side of the body will gradually give you knee problems This is related to the core’s inability to support the weight properly, and allowing the knee to move too far forward and put a lot of load on the front side of the body will gradually give you knee problems.”-oasis#0773.

That’s all for this week miners — we hope you enjoyed this week’s issue of the Concave Lens and look forward to bringing you the next one.
