First things first: drive at or below the posted speed limit by 3–7 m.p.h.

2. Give the driver behind you plenty of notice by braking at least 500 feet before said turn.

3. Signal (or don’t).

4. At the apex of the turn, come to a partial or complete stop.

5. Once you have contemplated and solidified your decision to turn, give it one final thought.

6. Turn in such a way that you gradually move outside of your lane, also giving you the option to change your mind at mid-turn (you always want to leave your options open).

7. While turning, think about any deep thoughts or unresolved conflicts that may be lingering: What am I having for dinner tonight? What movies are playing at the Hollywood Theater? What’s the meaning of our existence? Why do we even have thoughts in the first place?

8. Complete your turn and continue forward. Be ready to do this again at the next intersection.
