Walk before you run: Brooklyn touches records Wednesday

While it wasn’t the flashiest, most earth-shattering thing that’s ever happened in the history of baseball, Brian Sharp walked in the eighth inning Wednesday against Vermont. It was his fourth free pass of the day, becoming the fourth Brooklyn Cyclones player in history to walk four times in one game.

The Cyclones parlayed nine walks against the Lake Monsters into running opportunities. In fact, Brooklyn stole seven bags last night, the second-most in franchise history.

Sharp, rewarded for his keen eye, stole two. So did Ross Adolph, and Jose Medina. Dylan Tice also stole a base, his first with Brooklyn.

The seven steals for Brooklyn missed the all-time mark by one swipe. The Cyclones accomplished the feat last August. On that fateful day, August 2 against Tri-City, Walter Rasquin and Medina each had three steals in Brooklyn’s 6–3 win against the ValleyCats.

Entering tonight’s game, Brooklyn trails Hudson Valley by two games in the division, and Auburn by a half-game in the wild card spot. Wednesday win showed that the Cyclones are a club that can take care of gifted chances by the opposition.
