Behind the suits, the label, the male models, was this guy:

The real Mr. Hugo Boss, born 1885 — and he died a horrible death from a dental abscess.

How can someone die from a dental abscess or infection?

Unlike what is commonly thought, your teeth aren’t just attached to your gums. Underneath your gums, your teeth are anchored right into your jaw bone.

If we look even closer, teeth even have canals in them (where the nerves are located.)

What does this all mean?

When you develop a cavity in your teeth — which is essentially bacteria — bacteria now have a direct pathway to your bone, to infect and cause lots of pain.

Unlike your skin and muscle that covers your bone, teeth a direct pathway to it. And remember, your jaw is located only a few inches from your brain and other vital structures, potentially allowing infection to spread to these areas.

Here comes the pain.

When you have infection in your jaw bones from a dental infection, the inflammation process starts as your body tries to eliminate the source of the infection.

As a result, extensive facial swelling occurs.

And as Hugo Boss find out, the amount of swelling can be huge — to the point where your airway can be closed off.

Millions of individuals around the world still die of dental infections every year.

So when you realize you have a cavity, do not leave it. It is easily treated early on, but if left, the consequences can be life threatening.
